New 2022 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign
New 2022 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign – Nissan has made the decision as to whether the Pathfinder generation SUV will be a crossover based car or will continue to use the body-on-frame construction.
And despite Larry Dominique, Nissan’s North American vice president in charge of the product and advanced planning did not say, our money on switching back to the construction unibody. For 2022, we are equally be hoping, Nissan does not bring much change, both in terms of body and price.
In a brief history, Pathfinder had both. It was launched in 1986 with body-on-frame construction, but when it was RedOne in 1997, it became unibody. For 2005, it’s back to the ladder frame, sharing the F-Alpha platform with full-size Nissan Titan pickups and a full-size fleet of SUVs.

If it is considered that the puller capacity is about 5000 kilograms enough for most buyers mid-size-SUV, then the car-based crossover architecture will work for the next-gen Pathfinder, Dominique said. But if the consensus is that the buyer needs to tow 8000 to 9000 pounds, Pathfinder must remain on the truck frame.

Pathfinder Crossover offers more freedom in architecture and packaging, allowing for more differentiation with new vehicles. But Pathfinder also has a truck inheritance that the designer should respect.
For North America, SUV has a chance to evolve. The way the designer sees it, Pathfinder has taken off-Road images while as far as Nissan cars, but the car does not want to follow a conventional crossover or hybrid path, either.
And it is possible that Nissan needs a different version of Pathfinder for different markets to cope with the differences between developed and emerging markets.
Europe and North America embrace more crossovers, while African-like markets still need off-Road capability, says Tom Lane, vice president of companies responsible for product planning and strategies for the Nissan Motor Company’s parents, adds that Nissan may need to distinguish architecture in the future.

The solution could be to allow a single version of Pathfinder to continue to evolve on the fleet/Titan platform to develop the market, while engineering different vehicles for North America and Europe, potentially on an FF-L platform with an all-wheel drive. FF-L is used for vehicles such as Maxima, Altima, Murano, and Quest.
Dominique said to expect full disclosure this year. The next Pathfinder is still a few years out.
Whatever way Nissan decides to go, the offerings in the mid-size-SUV segment need a significant increase in fuel economy, Lane said, so the car is looking for a way to reduce weight and gain efficiency.
As for the full-size fleet, its customers Derek, and SUV will keep its body-on-frame, said Dominique. But it will also get a powertrain upgrade for a larger fuel economy, Lane said.
People buy a full-size SUV for some reason, said Dominique. Segments have been shrinking because those who don’t need those attributes have left.
