Nissan hasn’t released the price, but looking for it to start around $40,000, put it on top of the leaves and other affordable EVs. The leaves have three different trims and while it’s hard to say what that Ariya will offer, it’s fair to expect to follow the same product plan.
The drivetrain at Ariya will be one of the main points distinguishing from the leaves. Rather than a simple, front-wheel-drive setting, the Ariya will draw from the features developed in other automobiles, including the GT-R-Split torque-splits system, and the all-wheel-drive will be provided by the dual front/rear electric motor configurations. We estimate that Ariya will go from zero to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds, an achievement similar to the Higher-end electric vehicle.
2021 Nissan Ariya Range
The Ariya can offer up to 300 miles of Driving Range per charge, and if that turns out to be true, it will simply step upwards from the maximum range of 226 miles. The same-sized vehicles include the Jaguar I-Pace and the Audi E-Tron, which has 234 and 204 miles of range, respectively.
2021 Nissan Ariya Interior
The Interior of Ariya looks futuristic and minimal. Nissan seems to have forgotten every possible button in pursuit of a smooth dash that delights in a sleek look that matches the exterior design. For all the information that Nissan has held back in the announcement of Ariya, it has given us the dimensions of the car.
It’s four inches long and high compared to Rogue, but more than three inches wider. The Rogue performed wonderfully in our Carry-on luggage test and held 22 Carry-ons with rear seats folded, but we anticipated a slightly shorter Ariya would offer less cargo space.
Nissan also divulges the details of the Infotainment and connectivity system, and from what it described, it was quite interesting. SUV will display what Nissan calls Door-to-Door Navigation, which allows the driver to set the destination on their mobile phone which then automatically transfers the direction to the display.
Ariya can sync with the driver’s schedule, so it can pre-heat or pre-cold the interior while it is parked and charging, and therefore not draw on the power of the battery. The driver will also be able to use their phone to park Ariya automatically from a nearby location using ProPilot remote Park, a system similar to the features of the Tesla Smart Summon.
Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as well as the Highway Safety Insurance Agency (IIHS), have conducted an accident test at Ariya, but Nissan is bundling in many driver-assistance features. The Ariya will feature ProPilot 2.0, a second-generation Nissan ProPilot semi-autonomous technology.
The system allows drivers to remove their hands from the wheels in certain driving scenarios, but the C/D staff has not yet tested the setup. We liked the original ProPilot system when we used it in 2017 – and if it had any indication of how the 2.0 ProPilot would do, our expectations were high.
We predict that Ariya will come with the same basic warranty package as the leaves when it lasts for sale. That warranty should include a three-year/36, 000-mile bumper-to-bumper policy as well as battery protection that stretches up to eight years or 100,000 miles.
