2025 Nissan Maxima – There was a time when the Nissan Maxima was referred to as a “four-door sports car” and that was a pretty accurate description.

Despite using front-wheel drive, the older generation Maximas offers a much more dynamic driving experience than the current eighth generation, which was launched in 2015.

Maxima today is not like the model used to be, much to the disappointment of many people.

At the time, it made no sense to introduce the ninth generation Maxima with a combustion powertrain. Could maxima’s nameplate be mounted on that EV? Maybe but it’s not possible.

Automakers tend to introduce new signage when so-called “core elements” of vehicles change, such as switching from internal combustion to all-electric.

This is a new start that Nissan definitely wants to take advantage of. Currently, Nissan says the main difference between the Altima and Maxima, which shares a platform, is the first made for efficiency and the second for performance.

But maxima is not a performance-focused sedan for a while now. Put it this way: real performance sedans don’t come with CVT, the only gearbox Maxima has to offer at the moment.

Meanwhile, the Altima is scheduled to receive a midlife update in 2022 as well, but Nissan doesn’t seem to intend to cancel it anytime soon.

Plans are reportedly already in progress for the next complete redesign by 2025 and are expected to offer an electric variant, most likely a plug-in hybrid setup. Maxima, however, only has one or two years of models left.

Nissan has launched a special Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition model for 2021. The special edition model is based on the high-end Platinum trim, but the more aggressive look is meant to celebrate the history of four-door sports car cars.

The black exterior trim is offset by Ruby Slate Grey Pearl paint. Inside, all 40th Anniversary models come with red semi-aniline leather upholstery, smoke chrome trim, white gauge surfaces, and heated back seats.

Otherwise, maxima’s range has been refocused on SV, SR, and Platinum trims with more luxury-oriented S and SL models being discontinued gradually.

The Maxima is one of the faster full-size sedans, and its V-6 engine sounds good when pushed hard. The 3.5-liter V-6 produces 300 horsepower and moves maxima on purpose.

The continuous variable automatic transmission (CVT), however, reduces the mission of the Maxima sports sedan.

In our tests, maxima platinum ran from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, outperforming rivals such as the Kia Cadenza and Buick LaCrosse. Maxima handles well her size.

The suspension is well muffled and sturdy to the point that it may be too rigid for its class. Maxima showed a small, slender body in an aggressive cornering maneuver, and in our tests, Maxima SR easily defeated its competitors.

Maxima offers space for five well-executed cabin people filled with soft-touch materials, simple controls, and many high-end features. The legroom in the front seat is the best in class, while the headroom is average.

The rear seat space is not as wide as in larger rivals such as the Chevrolet Impala and Toyota Avalon.

Power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, leather-clad steering wheel, and shift knobs, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto dimmable rearview mirrors, and start buttons are standard features throughout the device.

Maxima offers superior crash test results as well as recognition for driver assistance features but is not ranked in the Insurance Agency’s Best Safety Options for Road Safety (IIHS) rankings due to headlights that only marginally score in agency testing.
